Dooars is the Bengali name for "Duar" or door to Bhutan. This vast undulating plain is the entry point of Bhutan and a fascinating tourism destination in West Bengal. Dooars has a vast network of WBFDC hotels and a handful of WBTDC accommodations along with private hotels and resorts. Dooars offers a variety of adventure activities like trekking, adventure sports and beautiful trekking trails. You can take an elephant safari or a jeep safari and enjoy the wonderful wildlife here. If you are lucky you can also spot tigers in Gorumara National Park. Dooars is an upcoming tourism attraction that promises adventure and sightseeing on a different level.
The closest airport is Bagdogra . From Bagdogra you have to hire a cab to Siliguri. From Siliguri you can book a taxi or take a bus to Dooars. You can also hire cabs from outside the airport but you have to make early bookings.
Regular trains from Kolkata and Delhi arrive at the stations of Newjalpaiguri (Siliguri), Hasimara, Newcoochbehar, Alipurduar Junction from. There are about one dozen trains in between Howrah / Sealdah (Kolkata) to these stations, like, Darjeeling Mail, Saraighat Express, Kanchankanya Express, Haldibari Express, Teesta Torsha Express and Kanchanjunga Express.
Normal buses as well as Volvo and Royal Cruiser operate from Kolkata to Siliguri and they traverse through entire Dooars region before reaching Siliguri. However the cost of traveling in these buses is quite high. The WBSTC and ASRT are the best options if your budget is low.
